Stagflation Investing: What Is It and Why Should Investors Be Careful?

Image
This investing strategy has resurfaced as investors become concerned about growing inflation and its impact on markets, but what exactly is stagflation? There's a lot going on in the market right now, and if you're scratching your brain and wondering what Stagflation investing is, you're not alone. But first, here's an explanation of this investing technique… What exactly is stagflation? Stagflation is also known as recession inflation. This period is characterized by rising high inflation, high unemployment rates, and a stagnant (or slow) economy. The phrase “stagflation" initially appeared in the 1960s, when a British politician used it to characterize the combination of job stagnation and price inflation. Throughout history, rising inflation and high unemployment have hampered economic growth in major markets, thereby affecting investors. During a period of Stagflation, people earn less while spending more on products and services that have increased in price ...

A Profitable Strategy During Earnings Season

Image
It pays to establish a trading technique that can function in any market scenario in this incredibly unpredictable market. And, with Q1 earnings set to heat up in just a week or two, this could give traders a plethora of possibilities to profit by focusing on firms that not only outperform estimates but also guide higher. Lululemon ( LULU ) is a prime illustration of this technique, having produced profits last week that were above expectations and guided higher. As a result, when the statistics were published, the stock increased by more than 13%. I point to LULU because, following the first surge to the upside, it fell back 25 points, allowing an opportunity for investors who did not own the stock when earnings were published to participate in a trade. In addition, I've provided another possible entry point in case the stock drops much further, delivering an even greater reward-to-risk strategy. Paychex ( PAYX ) was another firm that reported this week, and it both topped for...

4 Common Active Trading Strategies

Image
The process of purchasing and selling shares based on short-term changes in order to profit from price movements on a short-term stock chart is known as active trading. An active trading strategy requires a different mindset than a long-term, buy-and-hold strategy used by passive or indexing investors. Active traders think that earnings are gained by capturing market trends and short-term changes. There are several approaches for implementing an active trading strategy, each with its own set of market conditions and hazards. Here are four of the most frequent active trading tactics, together with their associated costs. 1. Day Trading The most well-known active trading style is probably day trading. It’s frequently used as an alias for active trading. Day trading, as the name suggests, is the practice of buying and selling securities on the same day. Positions are closed out the same day they are taken in day trading, and no position is retained overnight. Professional traders, s...

Stock futures rise following a major comeback week for stocks

Image
U.S. stock futures rose on Monday morning following a major rebound last week from this year’s steep declines. Despite the bounce, Wall Street is preparing to wrap up the worst first half for stocks in decades. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 0.55%, or 173 points. The S&P 500 futures gained 0.72%, and Nasdaq 100 futures advanced 0.92%. Those moves followed a major comeback week that saw the Dow industrials jump more than 800 points, or 2.7%. The S&P 500 popped 3.1%, and the Nasdaq Composite surged 3.3%. Those gains helped the major averages post their first positive week since May. The Dow climbed 5.4% last week. The S&P 500 increased 6.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 7.5%. Market participants continued to assess whether stocks have found a bottom, or are briefly rebounding from oversold conditions. Stocks  could continue to get a lift  in the near term this week, as investors rebalance their holdings for the quarter-end. “In a sense, the equit...
